Counter / Production Palermo Summer School of Art

Caffè Internazionale From 16th to 26th of July 2016


Caffè Internazionale is proud to present the first summer school in Palermo contemporary art. Under the guidance of Daria Filardo and Stefania Galegati Shines, 15 international students will

discuss the idea of ​​counter / production analysis as independent processes linked to production. The activities of this Summer school want to open a dialogue with the city. Palermo, city that is rapidly changing, will host the Manifesta Biennale in 2018.

The school is tructured in workshops, individual and collective. Each participant will have personal time and group time.

Counter / Production focuses on the idea of cultural production as a necessity and urgency of counterproduction. Counterproduction in art is a disruption device and a poetical reactivation

of reality in artistic language. The possible strategies of thought and art actions are a constant work of rethinking the object, the process, the artist's role and its function. Counter / Production

will try to work through active participation of the lecturerers, guests and participants to the school to identify, analyze and propose the idea of ​​cultural production as necessary

counterproduction. The school will be attended by three very curious personality of the global contemporary art system, whose presence will help with collective discussions to facilitate and stimulate

the production or counterproduction of a final project. The workshop will be structured in more phases: presentation and discussion of the work of the partecipating artists, excursions

to special hidden places of the city, workishopping with curators and invited artists, final event and party.

The exhibition space of Caffè Internazionale will be the place where we'll visualize the processes of reflexion, as if the space was a big white board where to act the thought and its visual forms.


The School has a participation fee of 180 € per student, with the possibility of some scholarships. The cost covers the activities and the guests presence.

The selection are made through an open call. Each participant should send a cover letter and a selection of recent works in pdf format, no later than midnight (UTC+1) of the 15th of June 2016 at this email address:
